HISTORY :
The University of Seoul is a municipal public university in Seoul, South Korea. UOS is famous in South Korea for a large number of alumni working as national or municipal government officials. UOS is a public university funded and supported by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Academic programs of UOS have been set to support necessities of the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Hence, UOS functions as a think-tank in formulating and supporting the major policy goals of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, along with basic research and education. UOS has a goal of becoming an international center for the urban sciences. The University of Seoul was founded as Kyung Sung Public Agricultural College in 1918 and renamed as University of Seoul in 1987. In 2012, the mayor of Seoul, Park Won-soon, implemented a campaign promise, “Half-priced tuition” as soon as he started his term.
Student Enrollment:
As of 2023, The University of Seoul has approximately 11,613 students enrolled, with roughly 8,674 undergraduate students and 2,939 graduate students.
University Programs:
The University of Seoul offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs across 9 different colleges, including the College of Humanities, College of Social Sciences, College of Natural Sciences, College of Business Administration, and the College of Public affairs and Economics. Some of the most popular programs at The University of Seoul include environmental engineering, taxation, transportation engineering, urban planning and design, landscape architecture, and urban administration.
International Students:
Every year, UOS hosts almost 1,000 international students who attend our courses for our degree programs, Student Exchange Program, Seoul International Summer Schools, and Korean language and culture programs. The Institute of International Cooperation and Education at UOS facilitates the sending out of about 1,200 UOS students around the world to broaden students’ perspectives and foster global leadership skills. In addition, we welcome over 400 exchange students to our campus from our partners as well.
Activities:
The SISA was founded in 2007 by a group of enthusiastic international students with the support of the Office of Student Affairs. SISA is the main and only official student body that represents and supports international student at SNU. Its aim is to make life easy and comfortable for international students, protect their rights, communicate the students’ needs with the administration offices, etc. Each year, SISA organizes a number of events such as the International Students Sports Festival, Student Ambassadors’ Meeting, International Food Festival, SISA Party and culture trips all around Korea.
Application Submission: International students must complete an online application form and submit the required documents, which typically include academic transcripts, English proficiency test scores (such as TOEFL or IELTS), letters of recommendation, and a personal statement or essay.
Visa Application: After being accepted, international students must apply for a student visa at the nearest Korean embassy or consulate in their home country. To obtain a student visa, the student must provide a valid passport, an acceptance letter from the university, and proof of financial support.
Arrival and Enrollment: Once the student arrives in Korea, they must attend an orientation session and register for classes.
Admission Review: Once the application and supporting documents are received, the university will review the application and make an admission decision based on the applicant’s academic background, English proficiency, and other qualifications.
Interview (Optional): Some departments or programs may require an interview as part of the admission process. The interview may be conducted in-person or via video conference.
Admission Notification: Applicants will be notified of their admission decision via email or mail.
