Han River in Korea You’ve heard of the Han River a lot, right? Including the Korean mainland movie “Monster,” “Han River” is out of many Korean movies. Entering South Korea from Incheon International Airport, almost everyone inevitably sees the Han River in front of their eyes. Each country has its own representative river, but Korea is known for its Han River. However, do you all know this famous Han River?
The Han River is one of the most important rivers in Korea, starting in Taebaek, Gangwon-do, and flowing across the Korean Peninsula into the West Sea, and finally into the Yellow Sea. It is recorded in the “Korea River List” in Korea that the total length of the main stream is about 494 kilometers.
The main stream of the Han River includes several tributaries such as Bukhangang River and Imjin River through various regions such as Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Chungcheong, and Jeolla. Based on these tributaries, the Han River water system is the second-largest collection of rainwater among all river water systems in Korea. The Han River is the fourth longest river on the Korean Peninsula after the Yalu River, the Tumen River, and the Nakdong River, and the second longest river in Korea. The area of the Hangang River basin is 26,018km², consisting of a total of 705 river extensions of 7,256km, with 15 direct rivers extending 813.0km, 12 local rivers extending 553.0km, and 678 rivers extending 5,890km.
Koreans often visit the Han River to look around, take a walk, or relax. The Han River flows through the center of Seoul and other metropolitan areas, and there are many attractions along the city. Also, we ride bicycles along the Han River and enjoy playing in the water. Especially in spring and autumn, cherry blossoms and autumn leaves bloom beautifully along the Han River. Also, Gangbyeon Expressway along the Han River is known as one of the representative driving courses. And recently, various cultural events such as media art installed in Hangang Park have increased, making it one of the popular places for overseas travelers.

Ttukseom Hangang Park: Hangang Park in Gwangjin-gu, located at the northern end of the river between Jamsil Bridge and Yeongdong Bridge, was established by reorganizing Ttukseom Amusement Park between 1982 and 1987. It is operated and managed by the Han River Business Headquarters in Seoul, and is directly connected to the entrance of the larva building at Ttukseom Amusement Park Station on Seoul Subway Line 7.
Nanji Hangang Park: A park built in commemoration of Korea and Japan at the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Sangam-dong and Seongsan-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.
Mangwon Hangang Park: Hangang Park located at the northern end of the Han River between Seongsan Bridge and Yanghwa Bridge.
