HISTORY : 

Daegu University is a private university in South Korea. Its campus is located a short distance outside Daegu, in Gyeongsan City, North Gyeongsang province. Reverend Young Shik Rhee founded Daegu School for the Blind Children. The school remains a part of Daegu University. The university began on May 1, 1956, as the Korea Social Work Institute in downtown Daegu. Later, it became a college in 1961. The Gyeongsan campus was opened in 1979. The graduate school opened in 1973. The school changed from college to university status in 1981 and changed its name from Hansa College to Daegu University.

As of 2023, Daegu University has approximately 17,871students including undergraduate and 1,697 graduate students enrolled.

Daegu University is made up of 13 colleges schools including the College of Humanities, College of Social Sciences, College of Natural Sciences and College of Business Administration. Some of the most popular programs at Daegu University include Information and Communication Engineering.

Activities:

Daedong Festival Tent Village

In May, all Korea’s universities have festivals. During this festival period, there will be various concerts and events hosted around campus. Specifically, during this period, each major will build a tent village where students can spend all night on campus enjoying food, drinks, music, and other exciting social and cultural activities. During this period, international students can also build their own tent village, so they can share their own traditional food.

International Student’s Night

In November, there is an International Student’s Night event which is a festival for international students. In this event, there will be several exciting contest such as Korean speech contest, international students talent contest and more. These contests allow international students to take pride in their Korean language ability and other talents.

Application Submission: International students must complete an online application form and submit the required documents, which typically include academic transcripts, English proficiency test scores (such as TOEFL or IELTS), letters of recommendation, and a personal statement or essay.

Visa Application: After being accepted, international students must apply for a student visa at the nearest Korean embassy or consulate in their home country. To obtain a student visa, the student must provide a valid passport, an acceptance letter from the university, and proof of financial support.

Arrival and Enrollment: Once the student arrives in Korea, they must attend an orientation session and register for classes.

Admission Review: Once the application and supporting documents are received, the university will review the application and make an admission decision based on the applicant’s academic background, English proficiency, and other qualifications. 

Interview (Optional): Some departments or programs may require an interview as part of the admission process. The interview may be conducted in-person or via video conference.

Regular Session is offered in four terms over the course of one year. Each term consists of ten weeks. The Regular Korean Language Program is an integrated training program where all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) are combined and taught via a team-teaching method where a group of two to three teachers teach one class. The goal of the program is to maximize the learning effects of students by improving their Korean language proficiency for smooth communication and expanding their understanding of Korean culture through Korean cultural experience classes. It is ideal for international students wanting to speak Korean fluently.
